Nora Jones at Hammersmith Apollo
Last night I interrupted my otherwise incredibly relaxing weekend by joining what appeared to be about a million people on the journey into London to see Nora Jones in concert (Not everyone going to London were going to see Nora , some apparently had other reasons like going home). The journey wasn’t the smoothest ever. My car began to play up about 10 miles from home but fortunately we were just a few miles from my parents house so we stopped there and stole (figuratively speaking) my dads car. We then set off for the M4 where including spending about an hour doing 10mph because of people rubbernecking what can only be considered an incredibly minor accident (a dented bumper) the journey took three hours. So as anyone who knows me might guess by time we reached the Apollo I was in one of those “she better be darn good” sort of moods.
One of the great things about seeing a solo artist (especially a high quality artist like Nora) rather than a band is the artist gets to surround themselves with some seriously good musicians. With the combination of Noras incredible voice , her fantastic song writing ability and some obscenely talented musicians this concert had potential. I’m not going to try and write a critique of the show but will just say if you ever get the chance to see Nora Jones live then let me give you some advice. “Do It!”.
By time we left the Apollo it was as if the horror journey had never happened. The trip home took a smooth 100 minutes. When we picked my car up from my dads it seemed to be fine and I ended my day going to bed humming Nora tunes with a big smile on my face.
