Broadband Pricing
Having just moved house I order a new 8MB broadband connection.
Firstly I was told it would take 9 days to process the order. I really cant understand why this has to take so long but Im sure someone somewhere will come up with some feeble excuse as to why.
So when it eventually got turned on 2 days ago I was interested to test the line and see what speed I really was getting. I use a site called SpeedTest which so far has indicated the best speed I have achieved is about 3.5MB with an average somewhere around 2.5MB.
Now I accept there are a lot of valid reasons why I might not achieve the theoretical 8MB and that’s not an issue. My issue is, if the company can only supply 3.5MB then only charge me for 3.5MB. It cant be that difficult to monitor the average speed I achieve in a month and then pro-rata my bill based on that up the the maximum I agreed when I took out the contract if I actually get the 8MB.
Will this ever happen, of course not, most people on 8MB contracts have no idea if they are getting 8MB or 1MB and while we stay ignorant and seem quite happy to pay for something were not getting mr broadband provider is going to be quite happy to keep taking our money.
