Of all the hip-hop albums in the list so far this was by far my favourite. Yes , like the others there are many times when it lives in that alien world I mention each time I have reviewed a hip-hop album but this one also allowed me to connect with it on many occasions.
The strong mix of male and female vocals makes the tracks far more interesting than the all male norm in this genre and in many places the female vocal sores to some sublime places.
Maybe sadly for the Fugees my favourite tracks on the album were cover versions of Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly With This Song and Bob Marley's No Woman, No Cry which are both incredibly good.
This is the first hip-hoip album in the list for which I have actually pressed the + button in Apple Music and permanently added to my album playlist.
Favourite Track: Killing Me Softly With This Song
Why Does This Review Exist?
I am working my way through Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time list and reviewing each album.
- Each album is listened to only once.
- The album is used as background music while working so how much attention I pay to it will depend on what I am doing at the time.
- I do no research about the album or the artist.
- The review is a one off, one moment opinion that may change with further listening.
