iTunes says this is a country album but I really don't agree. There are a few country tracks on the album (and in my opinion they are the weakest , but not that weak, tracks). I would describe this as a ragtime, folk , blues album ( a genre iTunes is probably lacking) that contains some simply stunning tracks.
This was a very difficult album to work to as I just wanted to listen. From the very opening bars of the opening track it had me gripped. I just wanted to tap my feet and drift along with the music.
The musicianship is is wonderful, Raitt's voice is gritty enough that it never becomes cutsie and to be honest at just 37 minutes the album ended far to early leaving me sad that I had to move on.

Why Does This Review Exist?
I am working my way through Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time list and reviewing each album.
- Each album is listened to only once.
- The album is used as background music while working so how much attention I pay to it will depend on what I am doing at the time.
- I do no research about the album or the artist.
- The review is a one off, one moment opinion that may change with further listening.
