Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

The Review

I think Coldplay are a good song writing band and this is one of their best albums. The songs are interesting with some great melodies and interesting twists. The tone of tracks goes from protest , to reflective, to anthemic and back again.

The tracks hold together really well as a single piece of work. With the current trend of downloading single tracks I think people can often miss out on the experience an album in it's entirety can give them.

Favourite Track: Green Eyes

Why Does This Review Exist?

I am working my way through Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time list and reviewing each album.

  • Each album is listened to only once.
  • The album is used as background music while working so how much attention I pay to it will depend on what I am doing at the time.
  • I do no research about the album or the artist.
  • The review is a one off, one moment opinion that may change with further listening.

Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Armed Forces

The Review

This one is from my youth and one I still play so after hours of country music and hip-hop this was a real joy to listen to. Armed Forces is one of those great albums that appeared as english music transitioned from Punk to New Wave. Music was going through a real exploratory stage and much of that seeking and freshness still shines through 36 years later. This albums was fairly instrumental in shaping my musical tastes so I can't say a bad word about it.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

The Review

This is an amazing funk rock album from the early 70's that keeps you gripped from it's haunting title track opening through to it's psychedelic Wars of Armageddon ending.

If you have never heard this album then do yourself a favour and rectify that failing as soon as you can.
